51s offense stagnant in loss

Which player will be the next to springboard to the majors off the back of the Las Vegas 51s: Craig Stansberry or Wade LeBlanc?
On Tuesday night, Portland Beavers outfielder Will Venable hit two home runs to beat the 51s and immediately received the call to join the San Diego Padres. On Wednesday night, Stansberry and LeBlanc did their best to claim jobs in the majors, leading the Beavers to a 4-2 win at Cashman Field.
LeBlanc, the Padres No. 12 prospect according to Baseball America, shut the 51s’ offense down for 7 innings while throwing just 86 pitches. He gave up no runs and just three hits while striking out three. Stansberry gave him all the offensive support he needed, knocking in a run in the first and two in the fifth in a 2-for-4 night.
51s starter David Purcey kept the game close for the first four innings, holding a Beavers rally to one run in the first and not allowing any more until he lost his control in the fifth, when four walks and a wild pitch contributed to three more runs and a 4-0 deficit.
The 51s pulled to 4-2 after the Beavers bullpen relieved LeBlanc, scoring two in the eighth off of reliever Mike Adams. Ninth-inning singles by J.P. Arencibia and Kyle Phillips brought the winning run to the plate with one out in the ninth, but shortstop Angel Sanchez grounded into a double play to preserve the Beavers’ win.

NOTES: Centerfielder Buck Coats had his 51s season-high 13-game hitting streak snapped, but Sanchez extended his streak to 11. … Relief pitcher Brian Wolfe rejoined the 51s after a month with the Toronto Blue Jays, completing the switch that sent pitcher Dirk Hayhurst to Toronto.
